I love doing crafts, it all started in the 4th grade when a friend taught me to crochet. Through the years it was one craft after another. In the early years, I started making gifts for my family and friends, that has continued. They seem to really love them. I consider my ability to do these things a gift from God. I may not be great, but making crafts gives me peace. By working with my husband in construction, I learned to work with wood (you know to measure & cut). He taught me that I can do what I really want to do. Some years back the art of woodburning got a hold of me and now I am hooked. I started out with preshaped wood that I bought at a craft store. Recently I learned how to use a router so I've started to cut, router & sand my own plaques, which I enjoy also.
Some of my plaques are purchased and some are cut by me or my husband. I sand if they need it. Then I find a picture that I size and put on the wood, I then burn it. I sometimes paint it with oil paint. I then seal it with 2 or 3 coats of sealer. If the plaque is to hang outside, I seal it with indoor/outside sealer. I then put a picture hanger on back. Most of my plaques take 3 to 5 days to complete, depending on how much time I have to spend on it. I do some special request also. I do not draw so I have to find pictures that I can trace and resize.
